Taking a small break for something fun
Hi Manuscript Workers!
I hope you won’t mind this week’s very short newsletter which is purely promotion for something fun that is happening in my life right now.
I’m going to be a contestant on Jeopardy this Friday (March 5th)!!
For those who don’t know, Jeopardy is a long-running quiz show in the United States. I’ve been watching it my whole life and have been taking the online screening test for the last 15 years or so. I was one of 150,000 people who took the online test in 2020, and this past fall I went through a couple additional rounds of tests and auditions (via Zoom) and in December I got “the call” that I was finally going to get to be on the show. As someone who initially trained as a television scholar in grad school, I found it super fascinating to see how the show gets taped and produced, especially under Covid conditions. (So many kudos to the production crew who made it work.)
I’m both excited and anxious for my episode to air on Friday. The mixed feeling of dread and pride is not unlike when one’s book is about to be released to the public, eek! If you’re in the US and have access to network broadcast TV, you can find out when and where it will air in your area here: https://www.jeopardy.com/watch.
Next week’s newsletter will be back to regularly scheduled academic book publishing programming. (I will however accept Jeopardy-related questions for future newsletter Q&As, lol.) See you soon!
