A small announcement + matching your donations
Hi Manuscript Workers,
First of all, if you’re feeling angry and depressed about the state of things in the United States right now, know that I share your feelings. I had already planned to send this message out before the Supreme Court decisions of the last week were handed down, and I recognize that many of us are not in a mental place to do scholarly work or think about publishing right now.
I normally don’t even send this newsletter on weekends, but I did want to let you know that Princeton University Press is currently running their annual 50% off sale. It ends in a few days, which is why I wanted to let you know, despite the timing being horrible.
If you’ve been waiting to get a copy of The Book Proposal Book, now would be a great time to snag one (or a few — it makes a great gift for the graduating PhDs in your life).
Use coupon code PUP22 to get the paperback for less than $10.
Most of PUP’s other books are on sale too. If you’re into studies of culture and technology, may I recommend Lilly Irani’s Chasing Innovation and Silvia Lindtner’s Prototype Nation? I collaborated with both authors as a developmental editor and their books are outstanding.
I hope you’re able to find some enjoyment and fortification this weekend amidst everything else. If you feel like rage-donating, check out National Network of Abortion Funds, which provides support for travel, lodging, and other expenses incurred by people seeking abortions. Donations are split evenly across a network of local groups, or you can customize to give to a particular local group.
If you purchase The Book Proposal Book directly from Princeton University Press this weekend, send me a screenshot of your receipt and I’ll make a donation equal to the amount you spent on the book. You can reply to this email or DM me on Twitter @lportwoodstacer.
See you next week.
