As a former publisher, I insisted that every editor write a conference report after each conference, describing in brief who they spoke with, who they met, how the books sold, how the conference attendance was. This included information gathered by all those who attended. We went through the previous reports, often multiple years, prior to the next year's conference to target who the editor wanted to set appointments with. Your interaction at the meeting was never lost and often resulted in us soliciting you later on.
